Touch of Zen
This project revolves around an incredible old multi-trunk maple tree. The problem with maple trees is surface roots. Simply covering them with dirt does not solve the issue. Our solution was to create a relaxing space featuring a floating deck which allows the roots to remain on the surface and let rain water nourish this magnificent tree. A second issue was an existing swale, which is part of the housing developments natural drainage system. Since we could not alter the drainage patterns we simply created a large area of river rock area and incorporated a small bridge to access the fire pit and stone patio when the area is wet. Natural landscaping, bamboo planters, low voltage lighting and bubbling water feature create a truly zen style space to relax.
